Lilac Wine

Why do opposites attract ?

This is why in darkness, you reach out for the twinkling taunt of stars although dying embers of dead suns will singe, and no matter how hard you try to hang on to the edge of sensibility, you are but metal to its magnetic inevitability.

Because you need a voice that syncs unspoken thoughts. Because the antidote to caution can only be administered by one not yet infected by second-guesses and sound reason.  Because the breath of life has to be lived, and cannot be taught. The way that cold hearts need warm hands to hold, beautiful things are uncaged when logic wars with abstract feelings.

Why do opposites attract ?

Because raw edges complement soft curves, and bravado is empty without the strength of vulnerability. Because the flutter of soaring dreams need anchors of reality and in the way that forbidden fruits are sweeter, there is a sparkling allure in the things that are difficult, even impossible.

Why do opposites, attract ?

“If you will look about you (which most people won't do)," says Sergeant Cuff, "you will see that the nature of a man's tastes is, most times, as opposite as possible to the nature of a man's business.” - Wilkie Collins

Imagine

People will tell you you’re ‘unique’ like unique is synonymous to not being normal. They’ll tell you to think different, when all they’re really comfortable with is consistency. Soon, you’ll retreat inwards, and god forbid if you start changing to fit someone else’s shell.

Stay away from the naysayers, lest their short-sightedness transmit through your idle worries. Stay away too from the people who are too generous with their “let’s see”s , and “Buts” and “Maybes”. Instead, surround yourself with people whose motivation is infectious. The ones who say “ Bring it on “ and “Let’s get this ball rolling”. These are the ones who don’t see obstacles, instead they see oppurtinities, and dreams. And dreams.

Surround yourself with the dreamers, the misfits, the ones who are different, the ones who dare, the ones who do.

When your psyche becomes invincible to the appraisal of others, you will be too.

Wake Up

Now, I don't know what they teach you in that fancy school of yours, but if you're not learning how to be a decent human being, you're not getting an education.

Grades, and rankings, and random pieces of paper with fancy words printed on them may get you places, but they don't really matter in the real world. If you're blind to the pain of your fellow men, you're wasting your excellent vision. If you only work to climb and stab, and climb and stab, you're wasting those talented hands of yours. If you're only constantly thinking of your needs before everyone else's, you're wasting that wonderful brain of yours.

Again, if you're not learning how to truly see, and feel, and touch, and evolve, you're not getting an education. At least not one about life.

Deeper Conversation

It is a marvel how the world works now. Touch anything and you trigger wonderful new worlds. It is a sci-fi dream and the gradual death of long, meaningful conversations. Before Facebook, Twitter, and means of instant gratification took over the world, life was still happening.

Go on out there and find someone who will sit down and talk with you about anything and everything. The Universe, science, culture, pop psychology, music, art, religion, literature, expand your horizon ! Some of the greatest inventions started through seemingly empty conversations. Stop, listen, wonder, rinse, repeat.

When you stop wondering, the wheels stop turning, the gears stop connecting,  innovation stops happening and then what ? And then, what ?

“The most fruitful and natural exercise for our minds is, in my opinion, conversation.” - Michel de Montaigne

Hero

You try too hard to fix things. You reach out to mend broken relationships but sweetie, those relationships aren’t going to look alright if you keep focusing on the cracks between the mended lines.

I hope you know that sometimes things have to be broken. If only because the effort of piecing together those chipped bits will remind you that everything is made up of little parts.

I hope you also know that some things cannot be pieced back again. Sometimes you’ll find missing pieces and gaps. And you’ll try to fill those gaps, first with the things that are within reach, and then. And then you’ll reach into yourself and wrench out a piece of you and try to fill those gaps. You’ll find that your wrenched out edges will not match those sharp broken ones Stop. If not now, then someday before you’re left with chipped off bits trying to be someone’s missing piece.

Everybody tends to have a secret hero calling. Listen carefully to the ones you answer.

Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with.” - Brodi Ashton

Badge and Gun

You wear responsibility as if it was a badge emblazoned on your destiny. You are a captive in a glass jar, looking out at what you think is reality when the reality is that you need to keep pushing for the opening before the oxygen fueling your destiny is sucked dry with every exhale of disappointment. When the air of your desires start thinning out is when you need to fight hardest, stay conscious, before you fall into the deep slumber of complacency.

You are most brave when you dare to be afraid. You are most whole when you acknowledge that you are made up of disjointed parts, of missing parts you want to fill.

You have the most to gain when you feel as if you have everything to lose. You’ll get hurt each time you bang against the glass. But every bruise is a step closer to shattering the prism of transparent lies holding you back. And those scars. Those scars will be your badge and gun.
